Cosmetic Injections |
| Safety |
Botulinium toxin is an injectable substance that has been used for many years to treat squints and nervous ticks. The substance cannot cause any permanent damage by any unwanted travel within the body as it attaches itself to the muscle only. The injection technique used ensures that the substance cannot pass into the bloodstream.
The substance has now been formally approved for cosmetic use.
According to the Daily Mail (2006), there is a 50% increase in the use of botox for cosmetic purposes. |
| How does it work? |
Lines and indentations such as frown lines between the eyebrows are caused by overactive muscles; this eventually reduces the elasticity of the skin by stripping it of its collagen causing forehead lines and crows feet. Dermal fillers such as collagen and other prosthetic alternatives can replace some of the lost elasticity, improving the appearance of lines and wrinkles. However, they do not stop the overuse of the muscles in these, therefore the lines and wrinkles are reproduced. Botox hibernation treatment temporarily immobilises an area, so that the frown cannot be created or reinforced. The result is that lines and wrinkles, depending on their severity, are softened and often erased. Over a period of time the habit of frowning, squinting etc, can be broken as the action is erased from the muscle’s memory. |

| Dental Implants: A “Natural” Replacement |
Today, the preferred method of tooth replacement is dental implant treatment. Dental implants replace missing tooth roots and form a stable foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel and function like your natural teeth. Dental implants also help preserve the remaining bone by providing the stimulation previously provided by the natural tooth roots.
There are numerous advantages of dental implant treatment over other treatment options. It is not necessary to grind down the adjacent teeth for a bridge, or secure a partial denture to adjacent teeth with clasps or hooks which can cause tooth loosening. Implant-supported replacement teeth spare patients many of the disadvantages of traditional false teeth.
Careful treatment planning is necessary for a good result. Diagnostic aids such as x-rays and three-dimensional models of your mouth enable your restorative doctor and surgeon to determine your best treatment options.
A gentle surgical procedure is used to place the implants in the jawbone where they remain undisturbed for approximately 6-12 weeks. During this healing phase the bone integrates with the implant, forming a strong biological bond between your substitute tooth roots and jawbone. A temporary tooth replacement can be worn until the final crown is placed.
Unlike most other implant systems that require two surgical procedures, the IT® DENTAL IMPLANT SYSTEM is designed for only one surgery. The elimination of a second surgery increases patient comfort and convenience while decreasing trauma to the gums surrounding the implant.
Once the bone has integrated with the implants and the foundation is stable, a small connector is placed on the implant.
Your new replacement teeth, which will be custom made with both functional and cosmetic needs in mind, will be firmly attached to the connector. Fabricating you new teeth involves a series of appointments to insure proper size, shape, colour and fit. |

| White Fillings |
White Fillings, which are also known as composite resins or porcelain inlays, allow teeth to be filled and rebuilt utilising more aesthetically acceptable materials such as composite resin or porcelain.
White Fillings do not contain mercury and are an ideal choice for achieving long term strength in filled teeth. Teeth that are heavily filled with large silver amalgam or mercury fillings are at risk of fracturing because the tooth is spread apart by these traditional filling materials. These teeth can be rebuilt with porcelain inlays, which holds the tooth together as opposed to spreading it apart, preserving the remaining healthy tooth structure.
This allows teeth to be safely and aesthetically restored achieving a more attractive smile.. |
